Research
In order for us to take the right action to protect biodiversity in Scotland we need up-to-date knowledge and information. Through a programme of research we can ensure that we develop our collective understanding of the complexities of the natural world. Scotland has a long history of innovative research in the natural sciences providing a broad knowledge-base; however our understanding of biodiversity remains limited.
Research Priorities
The research priorities have been derived from the Scottish Biodiversity Strategy:It's in Your Hands (2004)
Knowledge Objective: To ensure that the best new and existing knowledge on biodiversity is available to all policy makers and practitioners
- Improve understanding of ecosystem 'health' and 'resilience'
- Understand better the social and economic value of biodiversity in all its dimensions
- Engage a wider range of people in gathering information about the state and quality of their environment and associated biodiversity
