Experience nature on your doorstep
Experiencing nature on your doorstep can be easy, cheap and fun, and it's good for your health too! So why not give those favourite walking boots or old bicycle a whirl and go exploring. If you are going further afield then lower your carbon footprint and take the bus or the train to your favourite local park or local nature reserve.
Not only is Scotland a fantastic country for enjoying the outdoors, we also have very good access rights which apply widely to Scotland's countryside and include walking, cycling and other non-motorised activities.
Please remember to be responsible when exploring the countryside. Detailed guidance on how access rights should be exercised can be found in the Scottish Outdoor Access Code
.
What you can do and where you can go
There are lots of places that you can visit. In Scotland, we have a wide range of local parks and greenspaces, country parks, local nature reserves, woodlands and beaches. We also have a growing number of local paths. They're easy to find and provide great opportunities to explore and experience nature.
You can also encourage your local school to take teaching outdoors. The outdoors is a great place to teach children and they really enjoy it!
